15 Restaurants in Manila With Awesome Sandwiches

Between Bread: 15 Restaurants in Manila With Awesome Sandwiches

by

Foodie movie 'Chef' has left a lot of us scrambling to the nearest sandwich joint or running to our own home kitchens to prepare a messy-good grilled cheese sandwich. While this portable, hand-held favorite is mostly consumed locally as a midday snack or a light lunchbox treat, heavier savory items stacked in between slices of bread prove that a sandwich can be just as heavy-hitting as your staple Pinoy rice meal.

This finger food is named after the 4th Earl of Sandwich, British man John Montagu. While it was not exaclty invented by the artistocrat, it was popularly believed that a combination of meat between bread is what Lord Sandwich would eat while he would play cards, as it is portable, less messy, and rids him of using utensils (some serious cribbage attention was needed).

Fast forward to today: we have an entire spectrum of sandwiches only limited to a chef or cook's creativity--from the assortment of breads that serve as base and top, to the many proteins and fillings in different flavor ranges (savory, spicy, sweet, salty, and everything in between). Don't forget the condiments, the add-ons, the veggies, and everything-but-the-kitchen-sink.

Craving for some sandwiches? Sink your teeth into the metro's popular specialty sandwich joints! In this edition of The Click List, we share 15 restaurants (listed alphabetically) that specialize in mouthwatering hand-held eats. We decided to separate burger (and hotdog) joints from this list, as they are plenty enough to create separate lists. [If you're hankering for a burger like crazy, though, we listed 8 of the most insane burgers in Manila every foodie must try.]
