Last June 29th, UK's top coffee chain opened its first outlet in the country. Located at Eastwood,Costa Coffee
Philippines brings in the style of London into the cafe with its warm
interior and selection of coffee, pastries and sandwiches.
According to the Costa website, the brand was started in London back
in the 1970s by Italian brothers Sergio and Bruno Costa. Now the brand
is across many countries, with thousands of coffee shops in UK and
beyond. In the first Manila store, Costa's two floors of space is
London-styled, with sofas donning the Union Jack, scenes from UK framed
on walls; right outside the coffee shop is a replica of the vintage red
telephone box iconic and seen all around UK.
A favorite bread stall in Salcedo Market and Rockwell's Bakers Dozen has recently opened a bakery-cafe in Ortigas.
The Breaderyis
popular for their handcrafted artisan breads and pastries made with
premium ingredients. The bakery quickly became popular with foodies
frequenting weekend markets like Salcedo's and Power Plant's baker fair;
they also participated in the previous Best Food Forward benefit food
fair, and last weekend's The Gourmand Market in Bonifacio High Street.
Meet Ferdie Javier. Or rather, Engineer Ferdie Javier.
Ferdie, who just recently passed the Electronics Engineer Licensure
Examination, still isn't used to being addressed as an engineer. "It
feels different when people affix 'engineer' prior your name," the young
man gushed after he was introduced on stage.
Forget your usual "one grande non-fat, two splenda, latte machiatto" spiel and practice saying "a cup of Starbucks Reserve™ Aged Sumatra, brewed on the Clover, please?"
In response to the market's advancing knowledge and growing demand for
a better cup of coffee, Starbucks US introduced Starbucks Reserve™,
its premium line of rare, exotic, small-batch coffee, sourced from
micro lots in West Java, Papua New Guinea, and Galapagos Islands.
To celebrate its 20th anniversary, Figaro will be running and All-You-Can-Eat Pasta, Sandwiches, and Lemonade promo for P299 per person. The order-all-you-can promo is available from Monday to Friday,6 PM to 9 PM.
Throughout
history, people have waxed poetic about coffee---its intoxicating smell,
the way it lingers in the mouth after every sip, and its sheer ability
to make everything okay. They don’t call it the elixir of the gods for
nothing. Truly, coffee has cemented its status as a well-loved drink,
and in the Philippines, there are more coffee drinkers than tea
drinkers. Just survey the lot of coffee shops that have opened
nationwide in the last ten years and you will come to this
conclusion--Filipinos like coffee very much.
Coffee and SaintsCafé opened in 2006 and is an offshoot of the successful livelihood ventures between Chevron Philippines, Inc., the company that markets the Caltex brand of fuels and lubricants, and Don Bosco PUGAD (Parish Urchins Gathered at Don Bosco) Center, a center for the disadvantaged migrant youth. The earnings from the café are used for the operations of the center.
Once upon a time, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf (CBTL) was
known for their lattes, muffins, and their Eggs Benedict. Or, for me,
at least, that was the extent of my CBTL dining experience. Until, a
visit to26th St. Bistro by The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, located in Net Lima Building, on the corner of 26th St. and 5th avenue in BGC at Fort, changed all that.
Unlike the normal CBTL coffee shop, 26th St. Bistro is bigger, exuding a
vibe that is both cozy and inviting. The chairs and tables are wooden,
blending in with the subdued lighting of the place; the floor tiles have
a retro pattern reminiscent of the 1960s. By the barista’s area is a
row of bar stools perfect for eat and run commuters; with a selection of
cakes and pastries beckoning to you, not far to the right.
Even before I went to visit the coffee shop, I was drawn in by a particular section of Commune’s
thoughtfully decorated walls. This particular wall is almost always the
main attraction of their social media marketing strategies. On a stark
white wall, there are three images: two ladies gossiping over coffee,
one woman on the phone, and a man thinking to himself, “That COMMUNE
drink was good!” In brief, this is the story of what Commune is all
about: good coffee, good company, and good conversation.
I’m one of
those people who have to have their coffee in the morning or else I
won’t be able to function the whole day. And like many urbanites, coffee
shops are my usual habitat – I hang out there to do my work (ambient
noise for the creative mind), discuss ideas or just do nothing with good
friends while sipping a hot caffeinated beverage. But when I came
across Magnum Opus Fine Coffees, I found myself asking “What do I really know about coffee besides it’s supposed to wake me up?”.
Black Canyon Coffee

other international locations such as Malaysia, Singapore, Dubai and
Indonesia. In the Philippines, the first store opened back in 2012 and
is located along the Food Street in SM Southmall.
