Legit Nasi Lemak Now Available in Makansutra Megamall

Eat of the Week: Legit Nasi Lemak Now Available in Makansutra Megamall

A new stall just opened at Megamall's hawker food hub, and they're serving up this authentic Malaysian dish with the fluffiest fragrant rice.

Coco Kanin is the newest offering at Makansutra and at this new stall, they champion the Nasi Lemak -- a fragrant rice dish popular in Malaysia and Singapore and is considered Malaysia's national dish. As comfort food goes, they eat this rice meal at any time of the day, pretty much like how we find comfort in our Filipino 'silogs from day to night. A typical nasi goreng has fragrant rice decked with an assortment of savory add-ons and garnishes, like vegetables, fried fish, peanuts, egg, and the hot and spicy sambal to tie everything together.

Paella Place ArroZeria Just Opened in Makati

Rice, rice, baby: 8 New Dishes to try from ArroZeria's New Menu

by
When a restaurant opens up in the metro declaring rice as its hero, you know it bodes well for the carb-loving, 'till the last morsel' folk of Manila -- which is pretty much every hungry Pinoy out there (team #extrarice). Paella place ArroZeria just opened at the beginning of this year, but already it has garnered fans for their exceptional interpretations of paella through the culinary guidance of Spanish Chef Chele Gonzalez (of Vask Modern Tapas and Gallery Vask). Along with fellow Basque native Chef Ivan Saiz and Chef Keith Fresnido, the culinary team of ArroZeria champions sustainability through their food, and pushes for use of quality local ingredients, like the local heirloom rice from the Cordillera used for their paella (the closest to the Spanish arroz bomba).

Filipino restaurants in Manila with fun Turon desserts

Top Banana: 9 Filipino restaurants in Manila with fun Turon desserts

by

Turon, your every day crispy and warm banana merienda, is amped up in flavors and presentation by some of our metro's Filipino restaurants. This typical mid-afternoon snack served in street carts, school canteens, carinderias--or lovingly prepared at home by your favorite lola for you to munch on when you get home from school--consists of sliced saba bananas wrapped like a lumpia (spring roll), coated in sugar, then deep fried until golden crisp. Oftentimes, slices of langka (jackfruit) finds themselves stuffed in these dessert spring rolls, and it has become common (and a favorite for summertime) to pair them with ice cream. Other popular local preparations of banana for snacking on are skewered banana cue (caramelized and deep fried), maruya (battered and deep fried), saba con hielo (served with crushed ice and milk), and of course--sliced and sweetend to be part of the many colorful ingredients in our beloved halo-halo.

Restaurants in Manila with Unique Sisig Dishes

12 Restaurants in Manila with Unique Sisig Dishes

by
The legend of the sisig was said to have begun in the 70's: it was when Angeles City was labeled Sisig Capital of the Philippines, thanks to a famous restaurant called Aling Lucing's. A dish made from parts of a pig's head--its ears and cheeks finely chopped--was served marinated and seasoned, and on a sizzling plate. We all have our own preference as to how we savor this bar chow -- be it served 'wet' and saucy or crispy and dry -- and mix everything in with calamansi, soy sauce, and hot sauce (ratio to taste, as always).

10 Places in Manila for Modern Degustación and Tasting Menu Dinners

Appreciating Art On Your Plate: 10 Places in Manila for Modern Degustación and Tasting Menu Dinners

by
Foodies desiring to level up their food experiences are now spoilt for choice with many dinner destinations offering degustación.

Degustación (or degustation) is also widely known as a tasting menu, and it is an ideal dining experience for someone who wants to fully appreciate the talent and creativity of the chef. Instead of just typically ordering one or two dishes for a meal, a customer is presented with an array of courses (from 4, 5, 6 courses and even up to 12, 14 and 16!), and these arrive in smaller plates, compared to an order that is a full-sized meal.

Locavore Kitchen x Drinks in Kapitolyo, Pasig

Now Open in Kapitolyo: Locavore Kitchen x Drinks

by

Locally grown, locally produced, and locally made -- these are what the new Filipino restaurant in Kapitolyo, Pasig, want to champion.

Locavore Kitchen x Drinks is named after an actual term that describes a diner who consciously eats food that is grown, raised, or produced locally. Food for locavores should not have traveled too long a distance, and this is why 'farm to table' and 'sustainable' are also intertwined with this word. Consuming local also means supporting local, which is a great aspect of this type of lifestyle.
For their food, Locavore is proud that it supports local farmers, while their drinks boast of locally brewed beers like Joe's Brew, San Mig, and Privo Praha; their signature cocktails also infuse local fruits and ingredients like calamansi, Bukidnon pineapple, Batangas dalandan, and labuyo.
