C' Italian Ortigas: Pampanga's Famous Panizza, Now in Manila

C' Italian Ortigas, Angeles City's popular restaurant serving authentic Italian food, finally opens shop in Manila. Manila patrons of the Pampanga branch can now save their gas money whenever they're craving for the famous original Panizza of C. The City Golf Plaza branch aims to recreate the dining experience of Pampanga with Chef Cathie Lozano at the kitchen. The chef, who is part of the opening team in Pampanga, is now in Manila to keep an eye on the quality and consistency of the food being served. Regular customers will be delighted to see more familiar faces in the new branch, as along with Chef Cathie are staff and cooks from C' Pampanga to deliver the same friendly service to them.

Local foodies will remember Rastro was one of the restaurants of the late great chef Ed Quimson. The tapas bar recently underwent some changes, taking a nouvelle approach on some dishes while retaining some long-standing favorites.

When in Spain, tapas are usually comprised of a small plate of olives, anchovies, and paper-thin slices of jamon enjoyed with a caña or two (okay, three… at least). It was my first time in Bacolod and I was told to pack loose clothing. Apparently, 90% of the trip would consist of eating (the 10% is for driving to places for eating). While preparing my itinerary whilst asking recommendations from friends who have visited and/or lived in Bacolod, one restaurant appears constant on their lists: 21 Restaurant.

Named such because of its location at 21st Street corner Lacson (a main road in Bacolod), this family restaurant has been around since the eighties. Back then, it was smaller and had a shorter menu, primarily focused on serving Negrense favorites, like batchoy. Around 2005, the establishment underwent a major renovation and was even called Bar 21. Now, it is simply called “21,” a name synonymous to delicious comfort food, affordable prices and a family-friendly atmosphere.
