BGC Eats - New Food Tour

Sneak Peek: What to Expect from New Food Tour 'BGC Eats'

by Trix Deseo

Bonifacio Global City, home to the metro's most avant-garde restaurants, has cooked up something really exciting for foodies.

Dubbed as BGC Eats, the unique afternoon food tour lets you sample the menu highlights of four of the The Fort's best restaurants. “We'll take you to restaurants that are indigenous to the Fort. Some of them already have spin-offs somewhere, but all of them definitely started in BGC,” Chef JJ Yulo, BGC Eats curator, explained. “No two tours are alike, though. Each Saturday, we'll feature a different mix of restaurants,” he added.

In addition to sampling bestsellers, BGC Eats food tourists also get the chance to mingle with the owners and chefs of the restaurants. “The experience is so much different when you get to meet the people behind the food,” Chef JJ reasoned.
A select number from the media were given a sneak peek of the BGC Eats tour. Here's what to expect on Saturday.
The tour starts on time, so be on time.
Meeting place for the tour is along 9th street, in front of the Nike Store. Food tourists will ride an air-conditioned Hop-On Hop-Off bus to go to the four restaurants. Chef JJ Yulo, who will be riding with you, will brief you which restaurants are included in the itinerary.
Come hungry.
The tour will take you to four restaurants. In each restaurant, you'll get to try around two to three dishes.
Wildflour Cafe + Bakery served the group two of their cracker-thin, fresh from the oven Tartare Flambees. The saltier one had caramelized onions, bacon, and gruyere (P425). The second featured wild mushrooms, caramelized onions, and gruyere cheese (P425). To wash off the savory and cheesy flavors in time for the next leg of the tour, a refreshing glass of Agua Fresca (cucumber, lime, mint, and water) was served.

In Nolita, the participants were made to line up and choose which pizza flavor they'd like to try. Serving size is one long, pliant slice. Each table also got a basket of Fried Shrimp with Creole Hollandaise (P330).

Third stop was at 2nd's Comfort Food where the group sampled their famous Bacon Chicharon (P315) and a sampler size of their Benedict Burger (P575).

The tour ended on a sweet note with everyone trying their favorite Sonja's cupcake.

Albeit the dishes are served in small portions, you'll definitely feel full even before you hit your last stop.
Feed your curiosity.
It's not everyday that you get to meet and talk to the people behind the concept and the kitchen. Take advantage of this opportunity. Ask, ask, ask! The owners are more than willing to share the restaurant's history and concept.
