'If You're Drinking to Forget, Please Pay in Advance': The Bunker Restopub
I kid you not; that’s what it says on the wall—it’s one of the first things you see as soon as you enter. Don’t let it fool you, though; The Bunker Restopub isn’t all about getting yourself sloshed. It’s a place where you can kick back, relax and enjoy amazing food.
…and get sloshed. If you want to, that is. The Bunker Restopub is full of options.
Chefs and co-owners Jess Efenio and Jimbo Sarmiento must be proud to call The Bunker Restopub their very own. Situated along Tomas Morato and E. Rodriguez in Quezon City, the restaurant is a cozy place—a little hard to find if you don’t look too closely, but hey, the food’s great—where people of the Metro can have a good time without worrying about dressing up too fancily or burning holes in their pockets. Jess and Jimbo are also part-time construction workers, which gave them the option to build everything from scratch. Talk about innovation!
We didn’t have a hard time selecting items from the menu to try out; all their specialties are marked with stars, so first-timers pretty much have a good idea of where to start. For our appetizers, we selected the Cheese Sticks (P120) and the Sizzling Sausage Trio (P180).
Being an avid fan of cheese sticks (I find myself ordering those in any restaurant as long as they’re available on the menu), I instantly fell in love with The Bunker Restopub’s version of it. Their cheese sticks are tender and succulent, and each bite leaves you craving for more. The sausage dish, though, was magical. It is cooked in such a unique way and served on a hot plate, which is a feast for the greedy eye. Be prepared to say goodbye to your diet.
Sizzling Sausage Trio
For our main dishes, we decided to test out a variety. My friend Amanda decided on the Roast Beef (P220), while I went with the Chicken Roulade (P260). The roast beef, a simple, well-loved recipe, is as good as it can get this time around. The meat is tender and served with a light cream, making it appetizing to almost anyone. The roulade is sort of like a cordon bleu; it is breaded chicken breast served with ham and cheese. This is the land of comfort food, indeed.
We also had a bowl of their Chicken Pesto (P160). It’s your basic pesto made more fun with curly pasta and slices of delicious chicken breast. You also have the option to order it as a Prawn Pesto (P210) dish, which adds a little more variety.
We availed of some side dishes and drinks, too. Their Mushroom Pilaf (P46) is a good addition to any meal if you want to add some flavor to your main dishes. We each had glasses of The Bunker Iced Tea (P50 per glass) to accompany our meal.

The Bunker Restopub also serves alcoholic drinks, but we were not able to try them out that night. Some of their bestselling cocktails are the Margarita (P110 per glass), Mojito (P120 per glass) and The Bunker (P150 per glass). Do try these out when you make your way to the restopub and see if you’re going to make it out sober!
The Bunker Restopub does not boast of earth-shattering, exotic food. Instead, it gives you the freedom to partake of excellent, affordable comfort food after a long day of work or as a nightcap on a weekend night. If you’re not in the mood for foie gras, caviar or escargot, then you can count on The Bunker Restopub to treat you to a relaxing good time—just don’t forget to pay for your drinks before you stumble out that bright red door.
